Thrift Store - Mod Podge - Vintage Roses

Nothin' like a junk store make-over =) A couple of weeks ago I found this little chest at a thrift shop for $10.00 - it was the ugliest shade of green you've ever seen! I gave it a few coats of cottage white paint and then decided it still needed a little something... So, I found some vintage lavender rose cameo fabric and Mod Podged it to the dresser knobs and then for the final touch I Mod Podged a full cameo on the top drawer. Ashy was over today when I was finishing it up and he "needed" to help me =) He's too DARN C*U*T*E!

Grandma's Apron

The principle use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath, but along with that, it served as a holder for removing hot pans from the oven.

It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the chicken-coop the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.

When company arrived those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids.

And when the weather was cold, grandma wrapped it around her arms. Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove. Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.

From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled it carried out the hulls. In the fall the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.

When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.

When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.

It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that "old-time apron" that served so many purposes.

REMEMBER THIS! "Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool. Her granddaughter's set theirs on the window sill to thaw.

Meggan just emailed me these photos of Ashton. They took him to the "Splash Pad" tonight. These photos are too darn cute! I can not get enough of this little bugger. He was so cute earlier today when I had him. I smacked my head on the corner of I don't even remember what now - LOL! But anyway, he rubs his head, says owie (sympathy pains???) and then came and gave me a hug and a kiss and patted my back. It was SO cute!!! I swear a kiss and a hug from him can fix just about anything =)

Two young boys walked into a pharmacy one day, picked out a box of tampons and proceeded to the checkout counter. The man at the counter asked the older boy, "Son , how old are you?." "Eight", the boy replied. The man continued, "Do you know what these are used for?" The boy replied, "Not exactly, but they aren't for me. They're for him. He's my brother. He's four. We saw on TV that if you use these you would be able to swim and ride a bike. Right now, he can't do either one."

Lavender & Pink Strawberries

Are these cute or what? I love 'em! These sweet lil' hand crocheted lavender and pink strawberries just arrived at my house today (photo courtesy of Jannet) all the way from Denmark. Jannet (you can reach her via email: shabby-chic@webspeed.dk) was sweet enough to make up this batch just for me. She had the pink strawberries already made, but of course I needed a couple of lavender ones too, and she graciously agreed to make them for me. The best part is, they didn't break the bank -- they were only $1.00 each - can you believe it? I'm a HaPpY CaMpeR =)

Finally! The PERFECT Spot

The pretty basket cover that I purchased from Niki at "Nostalgia At The Stone House" (please see a few Posts ago) has finally found it's p*e*r*f*e*c*t spot. I love it here next to my favorite chair and ottoman in the living room. The beautiful box you see sitting on top of the basket was made by Marja at "A Home From The Heart" Excuse the green carpet (ugh!) that is on my "Wish List" to have removed. There is lovely old oak floor underneath and I would love to have the carpet ripped up and the floor refinished... Some day! I'd also like the ceiling fan removed and an old chandelier installed, this too is on my "Wish List". This "List" is getting quite long - LOL! It seems our home is a constant work in progress. By the time I think I almost have everything the way I want it (over the course of the last 22 years) another room needs to be updated/redone. Am I the only one who feels like this??? =)

Mackinac Island

I just had to share a few photos... Meggan, Dan and Ashy just got back from a mini vacation to Mackinac Island. I absolutely LOVE it up there. I used to go almost every year but haven't the last few years. These photos make me want to go again =) The island is SO pretty! If you have never been, you REALLY need to - it is a breathtakingly beautiful island. I loved going up there for Lilac Festival. The whole island smells fabulous!!! Some of the homes (Summer Mansions - Built in the 1800's) sit high up on a bluff and the view from them is like a little piece of heaven... Anyway, here's a few photos of Ashton and his Dad...

Yeah! Look what just arrived at my house. This vintage pretty came all the way from the U.K., from the lovely Niki at "Nostalgia at The Stone House". I love it! Niki used a gorgeous vintage fabric from Sanderson (I especially love that fabric as I don't have anything made from old Sanderson fabric(s) and I think they are gorgeous!) and the finishing touch is the two 1930's hand painted buttons that she added to each side of the handle. I've been wandering around the house trying it out in different rooms and different spots, as I tend to do with all of my new (old) treasures. Usually within a couple of days it finds it's "p*e*r*f*e*c*t" spot =) Thanks again Niki!

I am SO excited! I was browsing (lurking -LOL!) around in Blogland the other day and stumbled upon a woman who does commissioned paintings of homes. I sent her an email and a few photos and she just emailed me this today - I love it! She said that the colors are a little softer in the actual painting, but this gives me/you an idea of what it will look like. I should have it in a few days and I can't wait. I have wanted a drawing or painting of our home for as long as I can remember but they are usually SO expensive, so I was super excited when I found Teresa. Thank you again Teresa!

His mom and dad took him to the zoo a couple of weeks ago and these are a few photos that Meggan took. I just love how they turned out... He's a little bugger - LOL! The kids were over on the 4th for a bar-b-que and fireworks and this little pistol decided to pretend he was superman and jumped off the living room ottoman - whoops! You can't turn your back for two seconds when he's around - LOL! He keeps me on my toes... I hope everyone has a GREAT week!

I'm thinking this is where I should have stayed to begin with, but you don't know until you try. I decided to try something different (Typepad) but have come back home to my "comfort zone" here on Blogger.

Old Age is a GIFT

You may have seen this before as I have. A friend sent it to me today and I thought I would share it with all of you. Whether you are in your 30's, 40's, 50's or older, this is a GREAT read!!!

The other day a young person asked me how I felt about being old. I was taken aback, for I do not think of myself as old. Upon seeing my reaction, she was immediately embarrassed, but I explained that it was an interesting question and I would ponder it, and let her know. Old age, I decided, is a gift. I am now, probably for the first time in my life, the person I have always wanted to be. Oh, not my body! I sometimes despair over my body, the wrinkles, the baggy eyes, and the sagging butt. And often I am taken aback by the old person that lives in my mirror (who looks like my mother!), but I don’t agonize over those things for long.

I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, and my loving family for less gray hair or a flatter belly. As I’ve aged, I’ve become kinder to myself, and less critical of myself. I’ve become my own friend. I don’t chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn’t need, but looks so avante garde on my patio. I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant.

I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging.

Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 a.m. and sleep until noon?

I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60’s and 70’s and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love… I will. I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set. They, too, will get old.

I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And I eventually remember the important things. Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when somebody’s beloved pet gets hit by a car? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect.

I am pleased to have lived long enough to have my hair turn gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver.

As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don’t question myself anymore. I’ve even earned the right to be wrong. So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day if I feel like it =)

Pretty Lavender "Wish Box"

Here is a photo of my adorable little "Wish Box" created by the lovely blogger Rosemary at "RosesPetiteMaison". I was browsing blogs the other day and saw her post on her b*e*a*u*t*i*f*u*l boxes and emailed her asking if I could buy one. She said sure, and even took the time to go and buy purple/lavender crepe paper for me. The "Wish Box" ended up in our dinette. I didn't intend for our dinette to become the purple/lavender room, it just sort of happened. So I thought I'd share a few photos with you of some of my other favorite purple pretties. Around the same time that I received my "Wish Box" from Rosemary I had won an adorable little vintage cloche bell dome on ebay and wasn't quite sure just what I was going to do with it and then Rosemary's "Wish Box" arrived and it fit perfectly inside the cloche. I was so excited - I absolutely LOVE this sweet lil' "Wish Box" sitting on a vintage trivet and covered with this pretty old glass dome...

Lilacs & Roses

I just LOVE my new template. If you have never stumbled upon Ronda Juniper Ray's paintings, you are missing out! Her ebay id is "AntiqueCottageRose" and her paintings (done on old windows) are absolutely gorgeous. One of her windows is on my "Wish List", I love 'em but they are a bit beyond what my budget allows - LOL! So when I found this template on ebay I was so excited to see that "In My Cedar Chest" had used original rose paintings by Ronda Juniper Ray to create this gorgeous template. So I sort of have one of her paintings... =) I don't know about everybody else but I know that I get bored with my templates after awhile and need a change, so every once in awhile I treat myself to a new template or two. Makes listing so much more fun... =)

I also purchased an oh so pretty slipcover (made out of lovely lavender vintage curtain panels) for the chair in our bedroom that I basically just stole from Meggan's house - LOL! It is so pretty! It was an old junk store find that at one time must have been beautiful but the previous owner(s) had not taken care of it and the orginal fabric was stained and torn. Meggan didn't want it anymore so I took it. The slipcover was made by the wonderfully talented Ronda at "CottageSlipCoverGal". Her workmanship is fabulous!!! She did a GREAT job on this, and all without the chair. I just took photos and measurements and sent them to her via email as needed. THANK YOU AGAIN RONDA!

I also had a gorgeous, romantic looking slipcover made for a beautiful old cabinet that is in our living room. The cabinet was my grandmother's and when it came to me the top was in rough shape, although the rest of the cabinet looks great! So, I had it covered with a pretty old runner, but have always wanted something prettier, so I splurged and had a slipcover made for the top - I love it! Zoe at "Casa-Preciosa" is an extremely talented seamstress! I will try and get photos of the cabinet and chair in the next few days and get them posted. I'm not sure where this last week went, but I feel so behind on blog posts. I have so many new pretties that I want to share with you.

Ashton's First Visit with Santa Claus

Poor Doodles! Meggan went with a friend of hers and all of their kids to see Santa Claus yesterday. Poor Ashy, looks like Santa scared him to death. I can't believe how big he is getting! He will be one in just a few weeks, on January 11th... Where did this last year go? He is growing up WAY too fast for my liking! He is starting to walk. I'm sure he will be running by his birthday. Let's hope this Grammy can keep up - LOL!

Purple Poinsettias =)

Can you believe it? Every year for as long as I can remember we head to a local florists and pick out two "Fireside Baskets", one for our house and one for our neighbors (they are the sweetest couple ever!). These pretty poinsettias in baskets are meant to put on your fireplace hearth, but we don't have a fireplace so it sits in the middle of our dinette table. That little area is home to most of my purple treasures. The curtains are Longaberger Lilacs and Roses, there is a gorgeous vintage yard long of violets, two other beautiful vintage lilac prints, my two purple lamps, and other assorted vintage purple pretties. Anyway, I'm getting side tracked - LOL! When we walked into the florists to get the baskets for this year I was SO excited when I spotted a few purple ones - Whoo Hoo! I was a happy camper. I scooped one up and it now sits proudly on our dinette table. I love it! My neighbors aren't quite as crazy about purple as I am, so they received a traditional red poinsettia basket...

Merry, Merry Christmas!!!

Our tree is finally up and decorated. Goodness, I feel so behind this year for some reason. Usually by Thanksgiving all of the gifts are bought and wrapped to go under the tree when we put it up the weekend after Thanksgiving. But, everything is done now =) Whew! I love short, fat, chubby trees - LOL! And it has to be REAL. I love, love, love the smell of a fresh cut tree. I've added a few photos so you can get an idea of what our tree looks like. I like a wide variety of ornaments and I adore the old Christmas lights (drives Mike nuts as he's a firefighter and is sure they are not safe). I have lots of pretty Waterford and Christopher Radko ornies, but also love pretties that the kids made when they were little, and I, of course, LOVE vintage ornaments. The tree topper is an absolutely adorable vintage pink feather angel, but I couldn't get a good photo of her. For the final touch I love to add lots of tinsel and then I sprinkle on lots of snow =) The last photo is of my favorite gift that Ashy will be getting this year - a Radio Flyer bike complete with the old fashioned bell - I love it!!! LOL! Can't wait to see him riding it next summer. I hope everyone's holidays are going great and you are all enjoying the holiday season...

Well, almost - LOL! As of about a half hour ago I made a payment to have my blog totally redone AND there will be a "Shoppe" attached to it that I will be selling my vintage pretties on. The only problem is my new blog will be on Typepad, not Blogger, and I was told there is no way to transfer this Blogger blog to Typepad, so once I get my new address, I will post it on here and then you will be able to find me at my new place. I'm excited to be coming back and hopefully it will be soon. P.S. The photo is of my very first oil painting (of purple/lavender roses, of course!) purchased just a few weeks ago on ebay. I was SO excited to have won it, I had been "wishing" for one for a long time...

This will be my last post... I've been doing a lot of thinking about this lately and this morning after reading the above email that I received from a sweet email friend about "if you don't like something change it, if you can't change it, change the way you think about it", I've decided to stop blogging, at least for awhile. For the most part I've enjoyed my brief visit into Blog Land, but it's time for me to move onto other things. I'll still be ebaying my heart out and watchin' dear Ashy =)

Happy News & Sad News

We'll start with the "Happy News". The magazine with my adorable grandbubby Ashton in it has FINALLY hit the newstands. Ashy looks so little in these photos as they were taken when he was only 2 1/2 weeks old and now he's almost 5 months and about 17#!!! He's my chunky, chubby man =)

As for the "Sad News", my 23 year old son, Charlie, was ROBBED AT GUN POINT earlier this week by three black guys in their late teens/early 20's. It happened right across the street from his work. Thank God Charlie wasn't hurt. They stole his wallet, which only had $20.00 cash in it, but he had been saving Best Buy gift certificates for months (we had been giving them to him for Christmas, Birthday, etc.) to buy a new TV, and he had $400.00 worth of those in this wallet also. He spent the next day going to the credit union, the Secretary of State, etc. trying to replace all of his ID and bank cards that were in his wallet, having to get a new bank account number, etc. (what a crappy way to spend your day off). I am just so thankful that he wasn't shot or killed! He was so calm about it, which I'm sure is why he wasn't hurt. He just did exactly what they told him to. I can NOT even imagine having a gun shoved in my back. What is this world coming to...

Today was another Ashy Doodle Day. Ashy and I ran some errands. We went to the credit union, dropped off some ebay packages at DHL, filled the car up (well only half way up - gas prices around here are awful and I just can't bring myself to fill up my tank) and then we were off to do some treasure hunting... I collect old off white matte pottery pieces and we found one at a little antique shop, on sale, (whoo hoo! gotta love that!) for $4.00, so that is a present for me. Then we found the neatest vintage puzzle. The puzzle and box are round and the graphics on the front of the box are just gorgeous. I will be listing that on ebay. I'm hoping to sit down later tonight and make sure that all of the pieces are in the box. After a few stops we headed back home and Ash was whooped and feeling a bit sassy - LOL! So, I put Chunky Man in his stroller and wheeled him around our house - which is so very small and not intended for stroller use - LOL! Ashton gets SO hot and does NOT like the hot weather (neither does Grammy) so we cranked the central air and went for a stroller ride in the house and there he slept until his Dad came to get him a little while later. He looked so cute sitting in his stroller sleeping that I had to snap a few pictures to share with you. I just love that cute and chubby lil' man...

Look at all of these treasures!!! On Saturday, Meggan, Ash and I all went to the "Heritage Hill" garage sales. Heritage Hill Homes are in the heart of Grand Rapids and were all built at the turn of the century. Over the years they have been bought/sold and restored, and some of them are just gorgeous! I found lots of pretties that day. On Sunday I went to the Ann Arbor Antique Market to help out a friend with her booth (check out her pretties at "ShabbySeller" on ebay) and found a several more treasures, and she gave me a few more! I had a great weekend (except for the migraine (I had never had one before and hopefully never do again!) Sunday that I thought was going to be the death of me...). Some of the pretties in the photo I am keeping, but most of them will end up on ebay. I'm hoping to get a few listed this week. Click on the photo to enlarge it and you will be able to see all of my treasures a little bit better.

O.k., while trying to work on my blog, I inadvertently deleted all of "My Favorite Blogs to Read" - ARGH!!! I've been all over blog land trying to find all of the addresses that I lost, but have only been able to find about a third of them. Soooo, if any of you out there happen to notice your name missing from my "Favs", please leave me a comment so that I can start reading your blog again. T*h*a*n*k*s!

I'd also like to wish everyone a HAPPY Mother's Day!!! Mine was very nice =) I went to lunch with Mike, Meggan, Dan and Ashy. Charlie and Amber had to work. Charlie gave me the sweetest Mother's Day motto print (won from the wonderful Melanie at ChicPinkRoses on ebay) - I love it!!! AND, the kids gave me a gift certificate to go get my hair done and my eyebrows waxed. Whoo Hoo, I'm a h*a*p*p*y* mom!!!

Also, I just purchased this adorable banner/header from Jullie (be sure to check out her blog if you'd like a new header/banner at http://shabby-jules.blogspot.com). I love being able to change my header/banner whenever the mood strikes... I love how she turned Ashy Doodle into a little purple fairy and added purple polka dots to my favorte grouping of lamps (two of which were made by the very talented Coll at CollsGarden). Thanks Jullie!

I hauled out all of my vintage wallpaper, sheet music, greeting cards, buttons and sewing misc. and this is what I did with it... The first photo is a vintage MOP picture frame that I have added vintage sheet music, greeting cards, pink buttons, MOP button and pink curly ribbon to. The next two photos are of an old hat box that I covered in vintage sheet music, calling cards and pink bias tape. The vintage hat box is currenlty listed on ebay and I will be listing the frame today. Thank you for checkin' out my pretties =)

O.k., as I was tagged by Stephanie at "Angelic Accents" & Shannon at "Paint Mine Pink", both on the same day, I will just combine "Tags". I don't think you really want to know 14 odd/weird/facts/habits about me, seven should be plenty - LOL!

1. I am like Shannon when it comes to my pillows - Do NOT sit or lay on them!
2. I am an obsessive flosser. I have dental floss with me at all times =)
3. I clean everything with warm soapy water, I'm not into all of the latest cleaning products at the store, I like good old fashioned warm, soapy water!!! Mike for some reason thinks this is extremely odd...
4. In this day and age of electronic everything, I still write checks for bills.
5. I hate to put gas in my car. Why? No idea, just never seem to have time - LOL!
6. I bring my own Coke to restaurants that only have Pepsi - You get used to it once you've eaten out with me a few times =)
7. And last, like Stephanie, I am a Lampaholic (and have a few OCD issues) LOL!

How exciting is it to go to the mailbox and find a present?! I had purchased a lovely vintage greeting card trinket box from Lisa at her "PinkPantandRoses" web site and I also won two of the sweetest vintage wig (hat box) boxes from her on ebay and what a surprise when I opened up my package and also found THIS! HaPpY DaNce!!! This is so me, I love it!!! What a sweetheart she is! She also included two absolutely beautiful vintage (that nice thick cotton that we all love) purple floral napkins. My heart skipped a beat =) I was so, so, so excited. What a wonderful thing for her to do for me, for NO reason?! Thanks Lisa!!!!! You made my day. Oooooh, look what I found on ebay! (Excuse the photos, it's really dark and dreary here today.) I love old paper roses, but they are so hard to find. I found these fabulous shabby pink parchment paper roses on ebay and was SO excited! I also purchased one parchment paper hydrangea along with the six roses and created this - I love it! This sweet lil' bouquet is sitting in a vintage matte off white pottery piece that I found at a thrift store when I was out junkin'. Life's Simple Pleasures... =)

My Vintage Millinery & Thrift Store Pretties...

A few weeks ago I stumbled upon this shabby sweet cherub vase (I just LOVE vintage cherubs!) at a thrift store (only $1.49, whoo hoo!) and I had every intention of listing it on ebay, but after I hauled it home and washed it up it ended up on a shelf in our living room (go figure lol!), well yesterday I decided that it needed "something", but I wasn't quite sure what. I started rummaging through my stash of old millinery flowers (we have an antique shop here in G.R. called "Acanthus" and she has the BEST treasures ever and that is where all of my vintage millinery florals came from - I totally splurged one day) and this is what happened. I simply love it! Roses, Lily of the Valley, and lots of other pretties. I did list the few vintage millinery pieces that wouldn't fit in this vase, on ebay. So if you like millinery pretties as much as I do, please check out my ebay auctions.

I think that all of the snow has finally melted and hopefully done for the season =) These are some photos of our home last Spring. I'm ready for the flowers to bloom!!! We have some Lily of the Valley along side of the house and a wonderful smelling Lilac bush in the back yard. There is also some Lavender in the front. I can't wait for all of those w*o*n*d*e*r*f*u*l smells. And I'm ready to get out my shabby, chippy vintage plant stand and fill it with PINK Geraniums and fill our garden urns on the front steps with more PINK Geraniums and haul my PURPLE chairs out and put them on our Veranda (LOL!) as Mike calls it...

I'm so happy with how this pretty piece turned out! I started with a vintage mother of pearl frame that I found at a thrift store for .99 cents. I than added a piece of vintage sheet music found at an antique shop for $1.00, then I added a pretty rose card that I recently received from an ebay friend, then I added two vintage calling cards (one in the top right corner, one in the lower left corner) purchased on ebay for $1.00 each. Then for the finishing touch I added a vintage millinery shabby pink rose pin (won on ebay for $5.00) and a vintage skeleton key that Mike found for me an an antique shop last weekend ($1.50) and wa-la! Shabby, Pink & Pretty!!! When I originally purchased all of these goodies over the last few months I had no idea what I was going to do with them, but I loved 'em and just had to have 'em - LOL! Well, I was struck with the creativity bug today and I must say I love how all of my vintage pretties came together to create this =)

1940's Jadeite Green - WoW!!!

Mike had a Saturday off again, so off we went treasure hunting... I think this fabulous old metal tin was my most favorite find =) I adore the jadeite green color! I paid a whole .50 cents for it at an antique shop. Can you believe that?! I hauled it home (along with a car full of other treasures) and cut up some vintage paper curtains that I had and lined the bottom of the tin with a piece and then "ModPodged" a piece on the lid of the tin. I have it in our bedroom sitting on the top of my stack of vintage hat boxes. It looks perfectly shabby with just the right amount of "vintage character" (i.e. dents, scratches and paint chips - LOL!) I love it!!!

My New Ottoman Slipcover - Whoo Hoo!!!

This cruddy picture in no way captures the true cottage shabby prettiness of my new slipcover. I was just so exctied to get a picture on my blog that I didn't want to wait a few more days to post, but I will try again in the next day or two to get a better picture, in the mean time this gives you somewhat of an idea of what it looks like. Our living room is so hard to photograph. It's quite small and VERY sunny, so during the day everything shows up shadowy in the pictures and at night they look yellow and blurry - LOL! Once in a great while it will be just cloudy enough to actually snap a few good pictures, but no such luck today and I tried at three different times throughout the day and believe it or not, this was the best picture - oh dear! LOL! But this at least gives you a little peek at my pretty new slipcover. I am SO very excited about it! Every time I walk through the living room I have to stop for a second and enjoy the view =) If you check back a few blog entries you will see what the ottoman looked like prior to being covered with this fabulous slipcover...

Isn't this just the sweetest old graphic?! I just love it! I decided to add her to my ebay "Me Page" as it was time for a change. She reminds me of Spring! Speaking of Spring, last night we had the best thunderstorm (I love, love, love, thundestorms!). They always make me feel so nice and cozy when I'm tucked in at home =) It was dark and dreary when I got up this morning, but now the sun looks like it's going to start shining, so I will be able to take pictures of some of the treasures I found at the thrift store yesterday while I was on my lunch hour (well it actually turned out to be one hour, fifteen minutes due to the "quick" stop at the thrift store - whoops - lol!). Hopefully I will have some of the goodies listed on ebay in the next day or two so please check back... I have Ashy today and it sounds like he's waking up so I better go - Enjoy your day!

Look what I got today from "Shabby in the City"!!! Now that Erica at "Haphazard Happenstances" helped me to figure out how to change my header I will be doing it frequently. It will be so much fun to change for the Holidays or Seasons, or just because I want to =) AND Meggan went back to work today so that means I get to watch Ashy two days a week - I'm a happy Grammy! Today he ran lots of errands with me, ebay package to the Post Office, errands at Target and then to the thrift store. The chubby little bundle made my day today when he smiled at me THREE different times, and no, it wasn't gas - LOL! Happy Monday!

We are celebrating my son Charlie's birthday today (he'll be 23 on St. Patrick's Day - March 17th). Where have the years gone??? It seems when they are little you can't wait for them to start crawling, start walking, start talking, start shcool, etc. and before you know it, you've blinked and they are grown, and out on their own... I found the above print/saying "This I will remember, when the rest of life is through: the finest thing I've ever done is simply loving you" in a magazine and although I believe it's meant for your significant other, I think it also applies to our kids. I was once asked in a job interview what it was I was most proud of, and my answer was, my two kids!!! I'm sure that wasn't the answer they were looking for but it IS what I am most proud of in my life... Happy Birthday Charlie - I Love You! Love, mom

Snowy Adirondack Chairs...

It's SO pretty here today! Lots of sunshine and also lots of snow, it's quite deep in our backyard. Thought I 'd snap a picture of two of my favorite chairs (I have the absolute BEST neighbors ever - Ron made these two beautiful chairs for me) to share with you. I had a few errands to run today before I headed over to Meggan's for dinner but my day has not gone quite as anticipated - LOL! I had lots of errands to run and they didn't go smoothly. I was lectured at Meijer for a return I had to make and the lady at Pottery Barn was just darn right rude to me, I lost my prescription sunglasses and then I LOCKED MY KEYS (and my cell) IN MY CAR - ugh! Thank goodness after a couple of tries I was able to get Meggan and Ashy to come unlock my car for me. Well, by that point I needed a "present" - LOL! I decided to go to Vinney's on my way home to see if I could find any treasures and did I ever! Whoo Hoo!!! I will be keeping a couple of the goodies and listing the others, so keep checking my ebay auctions... O.k., I'm off to Meggan's. Enjoy the rest of your day!

My Find for the Week - WoW!

I am SO excited! Look what I bought today. This ottoman is absolutely gorgeous AND down filled!!! We found it at a place called Re-Deux. They have "hidden treasures of warranty returns, manufacturer’s samples along with scratch and dent products". This was my buy for the week -- ONLY $15.00! Whoo Hoo!!! I'm a HaPpY CaMpEr. I wanted an ottoman when we bought our new furniture, but they are SO expensive. They were priced anywhere from $400 - $600. I, however, would like it slipcovered. I know it's not for a few weeks but I'm in the Easter mood =) I can't wait to get all of my vintage Easter baskets out and fill 'em up with goodies. I listed the sweet vintage Easter bunnies and egg cups, shown above, on ebay. I just won the prettiest vintage Easter Hallmark, made in Germany, tray from a favorite ebay seller "emmastreetchic". I can't wait to fill the tray with Easter eggs. I would love to buy a couple Nicole Sayre eggs - they are on my "Wish List"...

Yeah! Finally!!! Treasure hunting has been a bit sparse these last few weeks, but I finally found quite a few wonderful treasures the last couple of weekends. I absolutely adore chubby faced vintage cherubs and this sweetie is no exception. I was kind of hoping he wouldn't get any bids (I currently have him listed on ebay if you'd like to take a peek) and then I could keep him - LOL! I had grand plans for this chubby cherub... I was going to have Mike drill holes in the metal leaves and then I was going to hang vintage crystals (purple and/or lavender - of course!). Oh well, maybe I'll find another on my next treasure hunt...

Lots and Lots of Snow AND Furniture Pictures - Yeah!

Well, it's a winter wonderland out there again this morning as we had lots of snow last night. It's beautiful! And finally, I did get a few pictures (our living room is quite small, so trying to get pictures was somewhat of a challenge - LOL!) of our new living room furntire that I'm so excited about. I want to add a couple more pictures on the wall behind the couch and I am also on the hunt for one or two more vintage barkcloth pillow covers for the couch AND some day I would love to have the carpet ripped up and the hardwood floors refinished and the ceiling fan taken down and replaced with a vintage chandelier, then it would be just about perfect =) Enjoy your day and thanks to all of you who check out my blog and leave wonderful comments. P.S. I just added one more picture for you to look at (the 1st pic) after I hung up two beautiful vintage baptism certificates that I purchased off of ebay in the last couple of weeks. I wasn't sure where I was going to hang them, but just had to have them. Anyway, after posting today's blog I decided to see if they would look good in the living room and I think I like them hanging over the couch. What do you think???

Our new long awaited for living room furniture

Our new furniture FINALLY arrived last Wednesday and I have been dying to get pictures taken and posted so I could share our new couch and oh so comfy chair with you, but the sun is not cooperating - LOL! I have tried on two different days but it's been so sunny, and our one wall in the living room is a huge window so the sun glare is just ruining the pictures. I will keep trying =) Until then here are a couple of pictures of Ashy (he's just so cute I can hardly stand it! yeah, I'm a proud Grammy!!!) sitting in the chair, that I took when he and his mom stopped over to see my new pretties...

Mike and I went out junkin' and treasure hunting today. I found lots of fabulous goodies that I can not wait to get listed on ebay. When we arrived home this was waiting for me - Yeah! Isn't this just adorable?! This arrrived today all the way from Australia. Coll makes the most beautiful lamp shades (this is my 3rd from her!). Her hand made lamp shades are just gorgeous (I'm addicted!). Another sweet and shabby addition to my collection =) Hope all of you are having a WoNdErFuL weekend!

Oooh, look what was waiting for me when I got home from work yesterday... Anyone who knows me knows of my sick (LOL!) addiction to vintage pillowcases (I quit counting after I hit 100). I have stacks and stacks of them and every time I change our sheets I mix and match a whole bunch of 'em - I just never seem to tire of vintage cases. I love, love, love that old thick cotton... Well, this particular case is new (I think this may be the only "new" case that I own) but it was so pretty (three beautiful hankies with little white buttons), and vintage inspired (so it will mix well with all of my other pillowcases) that I couldn't resist ordering it for myself (we all need a little "present" =) from time to time). I love it and can't wait to use it on our bed...

Had a wonderful treasure hunting day on Sunday and this is one of the treasures I found. I sure am having a hard time letting this one go (this happens with lots of the pretties I haul home, I know, I have issues - LOL!). Well, it's off to the office today for me. I would give anything to be able to stay home and ebay all day... =) Thank goodness I have tomorrow off! Our new living room furniture is being delivered - I can't wait!!! I'll be sure to post pictures as soon as everything is arranged just the way I want it. O.k. I'm off to go jump in the shower and then head to work... Hope everyone has a WoNdErFuL day!!! P.S. My First Chandy - Lavender Of Course!

Here's another of my favorite lamps, well actually it's a chandelier, my first. I would love one in our living room too, but Mike's not so sure he can handle another - LOL! I purchased this at a favorite antique shop several weeks ago and then purchased the pretty purple/lavender and clear crystals and clusters from a lovely woman who lives in Australia and sells on ebay. Ooooh, it was worth it! She is a sweetheart and her crystals are b*e*a*u*t*i*f*u*l , AND so affordable =) Gotta love that as I am a budget queen - LOL! Mike hung it up for me and wa-la, my dinette was transformed into a pretty room with lavender sparkles... Have a HaPpY Monday!

My Vintage Grandbubby

I thought I'd post a couple pictures of my "vintage" grandbubby. Meggan and Ashton stopped over yesterday and he had the cutest outfit on, an adorable sweater and matching hat from Macy's (Meggan works with the sweetest lady who bought it for Ashton) and "vintage" GUESS baby jeans (found at a thrift store in Iowa while we were visiting a friend). Too darn CUTE!!! Life's Simple Pleasures... A happy (most of the time, he has been known to have a bit of attitude from time to time - LOL!), healthy, plump grandbubby!

Vintage Lamps

I just adore vintage lamps and they are absolutely everywhere in our home - lol! I just can't seem to ever have enough. They make a room feel so homey and cozy to me. I thought I would share a few pictures (only a few, I will share more later) with you. I am always drawn to old lamps and lamp shade frames when I'm out treasure hunting. I love finding just the right vintage fabric to cover them with and then just the right gimp and trim, be it vintage pom poms, glass beads or fringe. I've also come across the best shop that is about an hour from our home and they have the most wonderful lamp parts so sometimes I get to actually create the entire lamp from finial, shade to base. So much fun!!! I have found two fabulous woman that make shades on ebay and they both live in Australia (their style frames are my most favorite). I hope you enjoy the pictures...

I always love to look at pictures of others' homes. It's fun to get new ideas and see how others use the treasures that they have found. I'm starting with our bedroom and will continue to add other rooms in our home. I hope that you have fun looking at the pictures. Lots of the goodies and treasures were purchased at thrift stores, antique shops, flea markets and of course, ebay.

Oooh, aren't these pretty! This is what I woke up to this morning. Mike had already left for work and when I got up these beautiful P*I*N*K roses and a Dove (one of my most favorite chocolates!) Chocolate Rose and a Valentine's Day card were waiting for me here on our dinette table... He can be such a SWEETIE. Thanks Babe! Hope all of you are having a wonderful Valentine's Day so far. O.k., I better git, I have lots of ebay goodies to list today. I'm in a Spring/Summer/Wedding mood so that's the kind of pretties I'll be listing...

It's so pretty here right now.. Lots & lots of soft falling snowflakes. Makes me want to curl up in my sweats with a soft quilt and start the book my lovely next door neighbor just dropped off for me. On another note =) I thought I'd share a few of my treasures with you. the beautiful half yard longs were purchased from a dear friend of mine (Amy at FourSistersInACottage) when my daughter and I visited her at her home in Iowa, the lovely trivet was a Christmas gift from my daughter, the clock was my grandmothers (who passed away at the age of 91!), the vintage candy tin was purchased at a favroite antique shop and the sweet hands holding the trivet are a favorite ebay purchase. Oh! I almost forgot - the candle is TO DIE FOR! It's Firewood by Hendri Bendel - Mmmmmm!

Well, it's Sunday afternoon and I just finished my ebay listings for today. You can find me most days on ebay. I also work part time outside the home, but buying and selling on ebay is one of my most favorite things to be doing (although since Ashton was born (my first grandbubby) he's become one of my "favorite things"). I have found that I get lost in "blog land" - LOL! I have stumbled across some fabulous blogs with oh so pretty pictures. Hopefully mine will look as nice as I learn what I'm doing here and learn how to post pictures, etc.
